Thales Alenia Space and Italian Space Agency Collaborate to Develop Lunar Base for NASA’s Artemis Program
Thales Alenia Space, a major player in the aerospace industry, has announced a collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to develop a Multi-Purpose Habitat (MPH) for NASA’s Artemis program. The program seeks to establish a sustainable long-term human presence on the Moon for future generations.
The lunar base module is a critical component of the Artemis program and is expected to grace the Moon’s surface in the 2030s. While specific costs and timelines for deployment have not been disclosed, the MPH is anticipated to be a major leap forward in lunar exploration.
The design of the lunar base module includes a cylindrical shape, telescopic legs, and solar arrays, as revealed in an image released by Thales Alenia Space. The module is estimated to be around 33 feet or 10 meters in length, showcasing a compact yet functional structure.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in lunar exploration and sets the stage for future human missions to the Moon.
