INTERVIEW – For the Swiss explorer, we must show that climate action is not a big expense but an extraordinary economic and social opportunity.
Explorer, pilot, psychiatrist, Bertrand Piccard, 65, is known to the general public for having traveled around the world in a solar plane. Founding president of the Solar Impulse Foundation, he has already listed 1,600 existing and profitable solutions to fight global warming.
LE FIGARO. – The holding of COP28 in Dubai, under the presidency of Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber, both Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies and CEO of a national oil company, has raised criticism. Do you understand them?
Bertrand PICCARD. – I would point out that Sultan al-Jaber is also president of Masdar, the UAE investment agency in renewable energies. He knows very well that suddenly reducing oil production would cause widespread war, due to shortages of supplies, particularly food.
