Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus wins bid for the Caminho da Escola Program.

A Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, a renowned brand in the heavy vehicle sector, was chosen to supply the largest number of vehicles in the Caminho da Escola Program since its creation in 2007. With the winning of the tender, the company will make available 5,600 new vehicles for school transport in Brazil . The expectation is that the units will be ordered and delivered by the end of 2024, contributing to expanding the school transport fleet in the country.

Each vehicle provided by Volkswagen for Caminho da Escola is carefully designed to meet the needs of students. The brand highlights the operational advantages, improved safety, superior comfort and cutting-edge technology present in the vehicles.

In the latest tender, the company will supply 4,000 units in the ORE 1 configuration, based on the Volksbus 8.180E chassis, and a further 1,600 Onurea units configured on the Volksbus 8.180. Both models, equipped with a 3.8L ISF engine, six-speed manual transmission and air conditioning, feature accessibility options, such as a lifting platform or mobile seating device (DPM). The transport capacity is up to 29 students.

The Caminho da Escola Program is operated by the National Education Development Fund (FNDE) and was created with the aim of renewing and expanding the fleet of school vehicles, ensuring safety and quality in student transport and contributing to the reduction of school dropouts. Furthermore, the program standardizes school transport vehicles, reduces prices and increases the transparency of purchases.
