Jihadism is a global phenomenon whose impact reaches various parts of the world. Its search to attract the greatest number of volunteers from different countries has a double purpose: the recruitment and radicalization of individuals so that they collaborate with organizations by committing terrorist crimes in their places of residence or by traveling to conflict zones where groups act.
To attract the attention of volunteers, within this strategy the development of effective propaganda activity becomes essential, where the exploitation of certain conflicts plays a relevant role: these are presented as an attack against the Muslim world by its enemies, both close and as distant.
The conflict that broke out in Afghanistan at the end of the 1970s and other subsequent ones, such as those in Bosnia, Chechnya, Iraq and Syria, have led to an increase in the activity of jihadist organizations and groups and the number of related individuals. who travel to these places or commit terrorist actions in their countries of origin. The most important example of this is the conflict that emerged after the Arab Spring in Syria and Iraq.
