Tamil Nadu Governor Ravi Criticized by Supreme Court – Latest Updates

by time news

The Supreme Court has taken a strong stance against Tamil Nadu Governor Ravi for his delay in approving 10 bills that were passed in the state assembly. The ongoing conflict between the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Stalin, and Governor Ravi has escalated, with the Supreme Court now intervening in the matter.

This issue emerged when Governor Ravi delayed the approval of 10 bills passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The government of Tamil Nadu filed a petition against this delay, which was heard by the Supreme Court. In response to the petition, Governor Ravi informed the assembly that he would reject the 10 bills.

Subsequently, the Tamil Nadu Assembly conducted a special session and passed the 10 bills again, without amendments. The Governor then sent the bills for the consideration of the President, which prompted the Tamil Nadu government to file a petition in the Supreme Court.

During the court proceedings, the arguments from both sides were heard. The Attorney General representing Governor Ravi argued that the Governor has the right to ask for reconsideration of a bill and send it to the President if the state government refuses to change its position.

However, the Supreme Court passed an order clarifying that the Governor has only three options according to Article 200 of the Constitution: to assent the bill, suspend it, or send it to the President. The Court also emphasized that once a bill is suspended, it cannot be disqualified, and the Governor does not have a fourth chance after three attempts.

The Supreme Court also called for a resolution of the conflict between the Chief Minister and the Governor, urging Governor Ravi to call Chief Minister Stalin in person and find a solution to remove the deadlocks.

The conflict between Governor Ravi and Chief Minister Stalin is causing tension and delays in the legislative process. The Supreme Court’s intervention and orders aim to address these issues and ensure that the governance in Tamil Nadu proceeds smoothly.
