Receptionists, housekeepers, chambermaids, cooks… To open its 5-star hotel in the splendid Vaux-de-Cernay abbey (Yvelines), the Paris Society group launched a vast recruitment operation last spring, with 210 vacancies. Around thirty places are still available, mainly in the kitchen, in the dining room and for room management.

“We have hired very varied profiles: staff from palaces or simply motivated people who express the desire to train in luxury,” explains Johanna Angeville, HR manager for the Paris Society hotel division.

“Relaxed and casual luxury”. This is the state of mind displayed by businessman Laurent de Gourcuff, at the origin of this “crazy project” worth 60 million euros. The finesse of the personnel is an important note on the score. “You need a sense of service, of course, but also an eye for detail, analytical and adaptation skills, relational and situational intelligence,” summarizes the manager. They observe each other a lot, base their attitude on those who are more experienced.”

“You have to love people and know how to stay true”

Samuel, 60 years old, is “part of the walls”. When the abbey was managed by the Les Hôtels Particulars group, he was “first receptionist”. He decided to do it again. A former dental prosthetist, he discovered the world of hospitality during his studies. “I worked in hotels on weekends to earn a living and I ended up staying in this industry,” he says, the telephone receiver pressed to his ear. I like chatting, the diversity of meetings and exchanges. »

In this job, he explains, “you have to love people and know how to stay true.” The place ? “This place has a soul, grabs you by the guts and grabs you,” he enthuses. For my first job interview here, twelve years ago, I arrived an hour early. And I was so mesmerized by the place that I almost missed the time! »

Pauline “learned everything on the job”. At 23, she has just been hired as a general assistant housekeeper. The young woman lives “near Versailles” with her partner, who works as a valet-luggage handler at the abbey. “Everything happened naturally,” summarizes the young woman. I applied because a relative told me about recruitment. I already knew the codes and the tone to adopt in 5-star hotels having spent a few seasons in establishments of this type. This is field work, which requires a keen eye. »

To attract candidates, a major difficulty had to be resolved: the geographical location of the abbey, completely isolated. Shuttles have been set up with the stations of Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, Les Essarts-le-Roi and Rambouillet. The group also offers its staff accommodation at the abbey (free) or partially covered in three neighboring towns.
