Six months after the Euro, another cruel defeat for the Bleuets against the Mannschaft on penalties (2-2, 4-3 tab), this time in the final of the Under-17 World Cup played in Indonesia.

Regrets. The French U17 team can have some. This Saturday, in Indonesia, the Bleuets lost in the World Cup final against Germany at the end of a tough match full of twists and turns which ended in a penalty shootout (2-2; 4-3 tab). A defeat whose origin can partly be found in their (very) poor first period. From the start of the match, Jean-Luc Vannuchi’s players increased their ball losses by trying to restart from behind. Errors which allowed the Mannschaft to obtain several hot situations. And to make a difference. Because shortly after the half-hour mark, following a missed clearance by the French defense, Aymen Sadi committed a foul on Bilal Yalçınkaya in his penalty area. After viewing the images, the central referee designated the penalty spot. Penalty that Paris Brunner, without trembling, transformed (29th). Christian Wuck’s men had other opportunities to drive home the point before the break. But they finally returned to the locker room with a one-goal advantage.

The French returned in the second act with more determination, winning (now) their duels and managing (finally) to project themselves into the opposing final third. But a little against the flow of play, Noah Darvich deceived the vigilance of Paul Argney by concluding, at the far post, a rapid transition launched on the right side (51st). The Germans thought they had done the hardest part. This was without counting on the flawless mentality of the Bleuets…and on the individual talent of Saïmon Bouabré, who reduced the score with a beautiful dribble-strike sequence with his right foot in the penalty area (53rd). Dominators, Joachim Kayi Sanda and his partners pushed to equalize by chaining projections and percussions. Overwhelmed, the Mannschaft made several mistakes. And Winners Osawe received a second yellow card, synonymous with exclusion (69th). With numerical superiority, the French team created opportunities… A domination that it managed to achieve at the end of added time. After an overflow on the right side, Tidiam Gomis crossed back for Mathis Amougou who pushed the ball into the back of the net to equalize and send the two teams to penalties (85th).

In this session, the French got off to a better start, benefiting in particular from Paul Argney’s save on Eric Da Silva Moreira’s attempt. But Nhoa Sangui and Bastien Meupiyou missed their shots on goal, the first hitting the crossbar, the second putting too little power. The Mannschaft then had the opportunity to seal the fate of the match on their fifth attempt. Except Paul Argney was on fire. The French goalkeeper saved the Bleuets from Paris Brunner’s strike…But in the sudden death, Tidiam Gomis failed to shake the net and Almugera Kadar took the opportunity to offer victory to his team. Thus, as during the Euro six months ago, the French team lost in the final on penalties against Germany.
