Young Woman Found Dead in NYC Trash Compactor Chute, Police Investigating
A tragic discovery in a luxury condo building in Manhattan has left residents and law enforcement puzzled. A 24-year-old woman, identified as Jaclyn Elmquist, was found dead at the bottom of a trash compactor chute at a high-end residential complex on West 28th Street in Chelsea.
According to police, a maintenance worker discovered Elmquist’s body on Friday afternoon in the building’s basement. Officers and EMS arrived on the scene shortly after and pronounced her dead. The young woman was not a resident of the building where she was found.
Surveillance footage obtained by News 4 shows Elmquist stumbling down West 28th Street late Thursday night, seemingly attempting to gain access to various doors in the area. It remains unclear how she was able to enter the condo building.
Law enforcement sources have indicated that Elmquist may be connected to a missing person case, with a woman in her 20s last seen getting into a cab at a nearby restaurant. The circumstances surrounding Elmquist’s death are still under investigation, and it has not been determined if her death is criminal in nature.
The city’s medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of Elmquist’s death. At this time, police have not publicly identified the young woman found in the Chelsea apartment building. Residents of the building are horrified by the news and are awaiting further developments in the investigation.
