Jan Andreu, CEO of the Girona company, explains that in 2021 the Stellantis group opted for a process of concentration and adjustment of its commercial network, with the aim of eliminating small dealerships and concentrating all its brands in a single space. In Girona, the Andreu Group, which has the historic Citroën concession, had been adding brands from the Stellantis group in recent years, with the exception of Peugeot, which from 2021 was in the hands of Quadis, which bought the Gicauto dealerships.

“We are groups with very similar values”

“The agreement with Quadis is the result of almost two years of work. I think it is a natural operation given the situation in the sector, and which combines the experience of two consolidated groups with very similar values: Quadis provides volume, experience in the online channel and in the fleet market, and we our experience and knowledge of the territory”, adds Andreu

Andreu comments that the agreement contemplates ccontinuity of the entire staff – about 200 people – to which the creation of the new society has already been communicated.

In this way, the facilities of the Andreu Group in Girona will soon host an exhibition area for Peugeot, which currently has the dealership in Fornells, where all the part of the business that does not have to do with the relationship with the end customer, such as spare parts. Looking ahead to 2024, the future of the facilities that the Andreu Group has in Figueres, Olot and Blanes will be studied.

Not counting the agreement with the Andreu group, the Quadis network currently consists of 25 concessions and 129 sales and after-sales points totaling more than 355,000 square meters. Born as a small business in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1940, Quadis is today the largest car dealership in Spain. It remains a family business run by the second generation.

Concentration of the sector in Girona

Until well into the 2000s, the car sales sector in Girona was controlled by family businesses closely linked to a brand. In just a few years, however, there have been significant changes. The Andreu Group has been, indisputably, one of the protagonists, acquiring concessions such as those of Opel or Fiat. Groups from outside Girona have also made important purchases: Oliva Motor to Martin i Conesa (BMW-Mini), Quadis to Gicauto (Peugeot) or Covesa to Girvisa (Ford). One of the last major operations in the sector took place last year, when the Empordà group Interdiesel bought the Renault concession in Girona from the Juandó family
