The Economy and Health Foundation demands changes in the organizational model of health and dependency services during the Conference “Social and health coordination as an opportunity” held in Murcia.

Madrid, December 1, 2023. By 2050, the population of people over 65 years of age in Spain will reach 36%, with the percentage of people over 80 years of age being around 15%. Currently, our country is the second oldest in Europe behind Italy. This fact, together with the increase in chronicity and the number of people in a situation of dependency, requires a necessary restructuring and reorganization of the coordination strategy for social and health care. “The great challenges we face today as a society are the aging of the population and the prevalence of chronicity. Social and health coordination is essential for continuity of care. Without it, there is no efficiency and there is no sustainability in the system”, this is how Alberto Giménez Artés, president of the Economy and Health Foundation, expressed it during the Conference “Social and health coordination as an opportunity”, organized by the Association of the Dependency of the Region of Murcia (ADERMUR).

It has also shown economic data that indicates how public spending on social services for dependency increases each year. Furthermore, health spending continues to increase without investment focusing on primary care, prevention, and health promotion.

Finally, the president of the Economy and Health Foundation has called for the strengthening of information technologies to facilitate this socio-health coordination, as well as to increase health and social resources. “Given the growth in demand, it is more necessary than ever to establish solid legislation so that our Health System and our Social Services work more united than ever.”

This day highlights the need to promote comprehensive and integrative care in the social and health care profiles, carrying out correct, efficient and synergistic coordination, which places the person at the center and allows offering the most appropriate resources to your need.
