The automotive industry in Israel is bracing for a price increase in January, as the tax on electric and plug-in vehicles is set to rise. However, in a surprising turn of events, the first car importer has published a price list for 2024 models that actually includes significant discounts.

The compact MG4 is being discounted by NIS 1,000 to NIS 3,000. The basic Standard model with a range of 350 km is discounted by NIS 1,000 to NIS 143,888, while the long-range (450 km) Comport is discounted by NIS 2,000 to NIS 151,888 and the Luxury model by NIS 3,000 to NIS 152,888.

Meanwhile, the MG5 electric station wagon is being discounted by NIS 5,000 to NIS 158,888, and the ZS EV crossover is seeing a discount of NIS 6,000, bringing its price to NIS 158,888.

The Marvel R crossover is also on sale, with the base Luxury model receiving a discount of NIS 7,000 to NIS 198,888, and the PERFORMANCE model getting a NIS 4,000 discount, bringing its price to NIS 214,888. Additionally, the plug-in EHS crossover is being discounted by one thousand shekels, bringing its price to 187,888 shekels.

The automotive industry has been experiencing a decrease in sales in the last two months, leading to increased imports in preparation for the impending tax increase. This has resulted in large stockpiles for most car dealers. However, at importer MG Lubinski, the discounts are attributed to manufacturer discounts, driven by the drop in battery prices worldwide.

These unexpected discounts are sure to pique the interest of consumers as they consider their options amidst the looming tax increase. As other car dealers assess their positions in light of these developments, it remains to be seen if more discounts will be offered to offset the anticipated price hike in January.
