Trelleborg Lights Up for the Holidays

The festive season has officially begun in Trelleborg with the annual Christmas lighting ceremony taking place in Gamla torg. The event, organized by Mitt i City in collaboration with Citysamverkan and Visit Trelleborg, saw the city’s trees adorned with new Christmas lights to kick off the holiday season.

The ceremony started with a lively march through town led by Kuststaden’s marching band and Ulf Bingsgård, eventually making its way to Stadsparken. There, according to tradition, Trelleborg’s parish priest Angelica Kilander read a Christmas treatise, setting the scene for a magical evening.

One of the highlights of the evening was the specially designed sound and light play, which was started by Lotta Wahlqvist. The 20-minute show, comprised of music and specially designed light, is set to be shown twice a day at 4pm and 7pm until December 23rd, creating a wonderland of magical shadows and festive tunes. The music for the show was composed by Jörgen Flink, a long-time employee of Trelleborg Municipality.

The festive atmosphere continued with a host of activities during Billboard Sunday, organized by Citysamverkan and the municipality. Highlights included a Santa parade, Christmas crafts, music, candy rain, and a craft market. Citysamverkan also took the opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions of local businesses by awarding prizes to the store, tasting room, and service company of the year.
