It was Galán himself who confirmed the meeting on his X account (formerly Twitter), in which he added a photograph of the moment.

“Today in Dubai I met with President Gustavo Petro. We had a respectful conversation. “We talked about the need to look for alternatives to cover the operating costs of the transportation system in Bogotá, higher education projects, the fight against hunger and how to advance comprehensive care for early childhood,” wrote the elected mayor.

The incoming mayor of the capital also added that at the meeting both expressed “their position on the Bogotá metro.”

“This will surely be the first of many meetings and the beginning of a necessary joint work for Bogotá,” concluded the president who will take office on January 1.

Petro did not refer to the meeting, but he did refer in his X account to the inauguration of the Quito metro (Ecuador), which is underground and is operated by the Medellín Metro.

“The Ecuadorian capital launched its underground metro. Why have Bogotá completed 9 years of suspending the construction of the project? Due to political sectarianism and social hatred,” wrote the head of state.
