A Czech ski alpinist died in a tragic accident on Wednesday in the High Tatras in Slovakia. The 43-year-old man was supposed to go to a closed slope with his wife, where he ran into an obstacle under the snow. A rescue helicopter flew to the scene, but they could no longer help him. His wife watched her husband’s death.
The accident happened on the slope at Štrbské pleso. “A forty-three-year-old Czech ski alpinist was reported unconscious on the slope, who was unable to ride and crashed into an obstacle under the snow,” the mountain rescuers informed, saying that a rescue helicopter went to the scene, but the man could no longer be helped.
According to information from the Slovak newspaper Nový Čas, the Czech ski alpinist went with his wife to a closed slope. “He quickly ran his skis onto a rock, stopped sharply, flew forward and fell so unhappily that he broke his neck,” stated one of the engineers who saw it all, for the above-mentioned journal. “However, he had nothing to do on that slope. He was there with his wife, who saw the whole thing. Unfortunately, they went over the tapes that closed the slope,” he added.
