As expected, the Vamos, Nuestro Tiempo, Fmln and Arena parties did not vote to grant the license, arguing an aberration and continue to maintain that Bukele-Ulloa’s nomination is unconstitutional.

San Salvador. The Legislative Assembly granted with 67 votes the pertinent license for President Nayib Bukele to leave the administrative activity of the government to dedicate himself to his electoral campaign that leads to imminent re-election.

The license has also been granted to Vice President Félix Ulloa Jr., who is Bukele’s formula to run for a new period in the Executive.

The New Ideas presidential formula enjoys overwhelming acceptance that exceeds 90% according to electoral surveys known to date, acceptance that is reflected even in openly opposition institutions.

As expected, the Vamos, Nuestro Tiempo, Fmln and Arena parties did not vote to grant the license, arguing an aberration and continue to maintain that Bukele-Ulloa’s nomination is unconstitutional.

But the parties that supported the license insisted that a resolution of the Constitutional Chamber gives legitimacy to the Cian formula and, incidentally, they recalled that the resolutions of the Chamber are mandatory.

The license will be valid from December 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, to comply with the legal requirement of not exercising the presidency of the Republic in the previous six months.

“To create a new country, a system has had to be uprooted that will be ratified by the population on February 4, 2024,” said deputy Reynaldo Carballo, of the Christian Democratic Party.

He pointed out that as a deputy he cannot and does not want to return to that corrupt past, when more than 37 billion dollars were stolen, nor to the times when there was no ability to stop the violence; On the contrary, they strengthened it with training at shooting ranges for gang members, he added.

Dina Argueta, from the FMLN, for her part, justified that she does not vote for the “illegal proposal” because she swore to comply with the Constitution. “In time they will have to give an account to the people and the law,” threatened the leftist parliamentarian.
