Calixto Vallejo, lawyer for Danilo Carrera, brother-in-law of former President Guillermo Lasso, has expressed his concern about the actions of the Prosecutor’s Office within the framework of the Encuentro Case. According to Vallejo, the Prosecutor’s Office would be trying to sow evidence to accuse his client of alleged organized crime.

In a press conference, Vallejo pointed out that the Prosecutor’s Office’s strategy is similar to that used in the Bribery Case, referring to Pamela Martínez’s notebook. On this occasion, he argues that the Prosecutor’s Office is trying to validate some audios, which, according to him, were edited and were on a pendrive that would have been destroyed by the journalist from the digital media La Posta who distributed them.

Danilo Carrera faces accusations of alleged organized crime along with other figures, including Hernán Luque, former president of the Public Companies Coordinating Company (EMCO), Leonardo Cortázar, alleged political operator, Antonio Icaza, former manager of the National Electricity Corporation (CNEL) , Roberto Bueno, Julio León Baquerizo, Jorge Orbe and Gabriel Massuh.

The Prosecutor’s Office maintains that the accused would be part of an organized criminal structure to commit crimes against the efficiency of public administration, benefiting financially through contracts and appointments.

Vallejo urges the Prosecutor’s Office to recognize that the recordings presented were edited and questions the validity of the institution’s procedures. He emphasizes that all the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office is, in his opinion, a farce, based on a recording in which Carrera is mentioned. Vallejo emphasizes that the client’s mere mention of him does not imply his responsibility in any crime, wondering about the lack of concrete evidence.

Carrera’s lawyer maintains that this case reflects a repetition of the strategy used in the Bribery Case, where, according to him, evidence was manipulated and planted. Vallejo highlights that the Prosecutor’s Office lacks solid evidence and suggests that the attempt to implicate Danilo Carrera may be related to his relationship with former president Guillermo Lasso.
