The first families moved into the new reception center for asylum seekers (Cada) in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique) on Monday, we learned from the prefecture, confirming information from the newspaper West France.

Around ten other families will arrive in this new reception center in December, according to the same source. The site will ultimately accommodate around a hundred people. Surveillance has been set up around the site.

Mayor targeted by threats

The commune, one of the first to have hosted a reception center for asylum seekers (Cada) during the dismantling of the “jungle” of Calais in 2016, saw a resurgence when the move was announced, still in Saint -Brevin, an opposition as old as the center between detractors and supporters.

Far-right demonstrations have continued in this quiet seaside resort since the transfer was made official at the end of 2021. The former mayor, Yannick Morez (DVD), the target of threats and whose car was set on fire at his home, resigned in May.
