This Tuesday the second day of the appeal trial against Nicolás Zepeda, a young Chilean accused of murdering his former Japanese girlfriend, Narumi Kurosaki, in France will take place.
Yesterday, the accused insisted on his innocence. However, it was his father who stole the show by questioning the investigation and stating that the victim could be alive.
Humberto Zepeda’s intervention brought out hives. He even had to be reprimanded by the president of the court.

However, the most unexpected question of the day came from Renaud Portejoie, Nicolás Zepeda’s lawyer. “What if Nicolás were guilty?” The jurist asked the father of his client. “Did you ask him the question, the one we all ask ourselves today? “That you are a parent convinced of your child’s innocence is very legitimate, but you have the right, for a moment, to ask yourself the question,” Portejoie added.
“I know all the details,” replied the 70-year-old engineer.

Humberto Zepeda: Several times… And each time, the facts, the arguments, the file, demonstrated his innocence to me.
At the close of the first day, the lawyer explained this “questioning.”
“I have been hearing for months that Nicolás Zepeda would be guilty. That the explanation for his silence would be fear of his father. It was normal to ask the question to the first person interested. He answered very clearly. Our role is to ask all the questions,” he clarified.
In relation to the attitude of Humberto Zepeda, who criticized the investigation in front of the court, Portejoie acknowledged that “it was vain, useless and clumsy. “It was not a strategy, at least not that of Nicolás Zepeda’s lawyers.”
