This Film Law is expected by various sectors of cinema, especially by independent producers who saw how with the approval of the General Law of Audiovisual Communication It included a “new definition of an independent producer” with which they did not agree – understanding that more power was given to the network production companies.

Victoria de Lecea sees the existence of two different definitions in both laws as compatible and believes that there should be no clash because “they are two norms from different areas.”

Another of those attending the meeting with Urtasun was the president of the Federation of Independent Audiovisual Producers (PIAF), Koldo Zuazua, who praised the “spirit” and “dialogue” that Urtasun showed, something that for the producers “is not was very frequent with other ministers”, especially in a “so immediate” way.

“He told us that he was going to listen to us and now it is his turn to listen to other parts of the sector,” he comments, before emphasizing that they have left the meeting with a “very positive” feeling.

Although the exhibitors grouped in FECE have not valued the meeting with Urtasun, considering it “a first contact”, this association already advanced some of its requests in this regard before the processing of the Cinema Law. The distributors’ meeting, which was held this Tuesday, was attended by members of the Association of Independent Film Distributors (ADICINE), the Federation of Film Distributors (FEDICINE) and the Próxima Association.
