It was in the victory (1-0) against Manchester United that the entire Newcastle universe was suspended. Towards the end of the game, Nick Pope injured his shoulder and had to be replaced, fearing the worst regarding his injury.
And the injury is indeed serious… but not as serious as previously thought. The England international underwent surgery and the length of the layoff is already known, not putting his participation in Euro 2024 at risk: four months.
«He is naturally disappointed because we have big games ahead of us and, on top of that, there is the Euro ahead of us. There is no doubt that he needs surgery, so he will be out for a period of time, we think it will be around four months,” admitted Magpies coach Eddie Howe.
Remember that, at 31 years old, Nick Pope has played a prominent role at Newcastle, something that has been going on since last season. With 10 games for the Three Lions, Pope can therefore continue to dream of participating in his third finals.
