The dictator of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, announced that it will begin issuing permits to explore for oil and gas in Essequibo, Guyana. He expressed the threat this Tuesday, 5th.

The announcement came after a referendum held by the Venezuelan dictatorship. According to the referendum, not recognized by the international community, the population of Venezuela supported the idea of invading the province of Guyana — the area that encompasses the entire left bank of the Essequibo River, which gives the region its name.

Maduro also announced his intention to begin exploring the site. The dictator also said that he will create a military unit in order to take care of the disputed territory — and that the president of Guyana, Irfan Alistated that he will not give up.

During the same press conference, the dictator of Venezuela presented a new map of Venezuela. The art displayed by Maduro included the territory of Essequibo as part of the Andean country.

Still in the announcement, Nicolás Maduro said that he will start distributing oil and gas exploration rights in Essequibo. Distribution, as occurs under the Bolivarian regime in other sectors, will only occur to state-owned companies.

The dictator also gave three months for companies exploiting natural resources to close their activities in the Essequibo region. Some companies, such as the North American Exxon Mobilwere responsible for discovering large oil fields in the region.

Since September, the Guyana government has been distributing exploration rights to the site to companies.
