One more prize on Guillaume Martin’s shelf. This Thursday, the French cyclist, 10th in the last Tour de France, received the Jacques de Fouchier prize, awarded by the French Academy, for his work “The society of the peloton: philosophy of the individual in a group”. Published in 2021, this book evokes the sport that is so close to his heart, cycling, which fiercely resembles society, with different social classes, power games, services exchanged and a need for collective action.

Highly appreciated, this work was therefore rewarded by the French Academy, which awarded it the Jacques de Fouchier prize, “intended for a work or work remarkable for its subject, its composition, its style, and therefore the author n ‘does not belong to the literary professions’. In addition to this prize, created in 1998, a check for 10,000 euros was also offered to him.

Dressed in a magnificent suit, far from the shorts he is more accustomed to wearing, he took advantage of this prestigious ceremony. He then participated in a conference on: “Is sport moral? », taught at the Sorbonne Nouvelle. After these prestigious honors, he can now turn to preparing for the 2024 season, which he will once again compete in the colors of the French team Cofidis.
