Capes opens selection for exchange in Mozambique

The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) and the Ministry of Racial Equality (MIR) opened the first selection do Amefrican Paths: South-South Exchange Program. Up to 50 quilombola or self-declared black or brown students, undergraduate students from the 5th semester onwards and linked to Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies Centers or related groups, will be selected for a 15-day exchange at the Pedagogical University of Maputo (UP – Maputo ).

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on January 4, 2024 through the Capes Registration System (Sicapes). The initiative contributes to combating racism and promoting racial equality in Brazil. Before leaving for their two-week stay in the African country, students will take a course on-line 40 hours on Afro-Brazilian and Mozambican History and Culture. Participants must prepare a report on the activities carried out in UP – Maputo. The document must be presented, as well as an article, academic event or report of the experience resulting from participation in the Program.

Financial support will be the responsibility of MIR. Each person will receive R$10,500.00 for daily allowances, R$13,172.00 for airline tickets, R$520.75 for health insurance assistance, R$257.25 to help with issuing a passport and R$250.00 for issuing a visa to enter Mozambique. About the Program

O Amefrican Paths: South-South Exchange Program will encourage the exchange of knowledge, experiences and public policies that contribute to the fight against racism and the education of ethnic-racial relations through academic cooperation between higher education institutions and encouragement of research and scientific and technological development to promote racial equality. Furthermore, the action will strengthen the initial and continuing training of educators from the perspective of Ethnic-Racial Relations Education.

The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) is a body linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC).
