Since the Covid-19 crisis, teleconsultation platforms have exploded. Intended to compensate for the lack of doctors in rural areas for those who need them most, they have become dangerous money machines. The union of general practitioners MG France wants increased controls.

The platforms are legion: Livi, Hellocare, Helpsy… Without denying the advantages of technology, MG France denounces in a statement published on December 4 “off-ground” teleconsultations.

By reporting the results of studies carried out by the CPAM, the union highlights a significant gap between “platform” teleconsultations and teleconsultations carried out by treating general practitioners.

The first “were carried out at 82% for the benefit of patients aged 16 to 39, while those carried out by private doctors are only at 51.8%.” Also, “90% of platform teleconsultations are for patients who do not have ALD (long-term illness).” When the CPAM is not behind to monitor, “26% of procedures are billed with night or Sunday increases”. Finally, “platform teleconsultations lead to antibiotic prescriptions 2.5 times more frequent than those of general practitioners”.

Clearly, not only does teleconsultation not help those who really need it, but it becomes a real money machine which could prove dangerous. When leaving school, young doctors are called by the sirens of these private companies, which promise them a comfortable salary for teleconsultations lasting 4 minutes on average. A sinecure, but not responsible medicine.

As reported byHumanitythe president of MG France explains that “these teleconsultation platforms, with private funds behind them, have escaped all control since the State abolished the regulations. They have no knowledge of the patient, nor their medical file, nor clinical examinations.”

However, it is a solution that continues to spread like wildfire. Recently, it was the SNCF which announced that it wanted to deploy telemedicine spaces in some 300 stations by 2028.
