In 2021-2022, the Ministry of Territorial Administration of Armenia estimated the repair of railways to be 2-3 times more expensive than what the Ministry of Finance is doing now, within the framework of the “Crossroads of Peace” project. writes Sputnik Armenia.

Estimates of the Armenian government regarding the cost of restoring the railways to Azerbaijan and Turkey have changed dramatically over the past two years.

Armenian Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan told Civilnet in November that the “Crossroads of Peace” project initiated by the Armenian government will cost about 400-500 million dollars. In particular, according to him, the restoration of Hrazdan-Ijevan-Ghazakh-Aghstev railway is estimated at 318 million dollars, Yeraskh-Horadiz (with Nakhijevan and Syunik) – 61.5 million dollars, and Gyumri – Akhuryan station (border with Turkey – ed.) – 8 -9 million dollars.

It is noteworthy that the restoration of three sections of the railway between December 2021 and February 2022, according to the estimates of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, was much more expensive. And so, the restoration of the Hrazdan-Ijevan-Azerbaijan border section was estimated at 496 million dollars.

It is 1.5 times (56%) more expensive than the current estimate. The restoration of the Yeraskh-Horadiz railway was estimated at 226 million dollars. It is 3.7 times more expensive than now. The restoration of the Gyumri-Turkey border section in 2022 was estimated at 16.8 million dollars, which is about 2 times higher than the current estimates.
