Two young people who were riding a scooter were victims of an accident in Chelles, Friday December 8, after the driver of the two-wheeler refused to stop on orders from the police, announced the Meaux prosecutor. One of them, a 17-year-old teenager, died on Saturday, December 9, following a scooter accident. The driver of the scooter, also 17 years old, was still hospitalized on Saturday evening, with his life threatening.
In a press release, the Meaux public prosecutor’s office explains that on Friday, around 11 p.m., a crew from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) of Neuilly-sur-Marne tried to control this two-wheeler which had just run a red light. “Despite the use of sound and light warnings, the police officers were unable to get the driver of the scooter on which a passenger was riding to stop”writes the prosecution.
Arriving in the town of Chelles, the driver slipped on the road and the scooter came “driving under a vehicle stopped at a traffic light”details the public prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier in his press release.
Opening of two investigations
The two young people then found themselves trapped under the car, “one of the two – probably the passenger – losing his helmet under the violence of the shock”, adds the magistrate. According to the first elements of the investigation, established in particular through the use of video surveillance, “it appears that there was no contact between the scooter and the BAC vehicle”indicates the press release.
The Meaux public prosecutor’s office has opened two investigations, according to the prosecutor. The first, for refusal to comply, was entrusted to the Chelles-Villeparisis police station. The second, on counts of homicide and involuntary injuries, will be carried out by the Parisian delegation of the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the “font of fonts”.
