Conflict. WHO convenes its Executive Board for a special session on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. A draft resolution submitted to the WHO by 17 member countries and Palestine, with special status, demanded Friday that Israel fully respect its obligations to protect medical and humanitarian personnel in the Gaza Strip, subject to intense shelling of the Israeli army.
Investiture. Argentina will officially have a new president this Sunday. The ultraliberal Javier Milei will be invested, in the presence of the international elite: Volodymyr Zelensky, the King of Spain Felipe, the Hungarian Viktor Orban, the Paraguayan Santiago Pena, the Uruguayan Luis Lacalle Pou and the Chilean Gabriel Boric should be present.
Human rights. On December 10, 1948, the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in Paris, a global humanist ambition displayed shortly after the victory of the Allies over the Nazis. “First manifesto that organized humanity has ever adopted”, according to the jurist René Cassin, its principles are inspired by the American Declaration of Independence of 1776 and the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789.
Nobel. The 2023 Nobel Prizes will be awarded to their winners this Sunday. In Oslo for the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded to Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi – who began a new hunger strike this Saturday “in solidarity with the Bahai religious minority”. She is currently imprisoned in Iran. She will be represented in Norway by her brother and her husband. The Nobel Prizes in science, literature and economics will be awarded in Stockholm.
