The Alfa Romeo Tonale has become the Italian brand’s best-selling model today: almost two out of every three Alfas sold today correspond to the stylized C-segment SUV.

The Tonale is also the first vehicle made by the brand with Stellantis mechanics, and one that has turned out to be key in gaining a presence in the most competitive segment of the European market.

In fact, the Tonale shares the segment with its brothers from the Peugeot 3008, Citroën C5 Aircross, Opel Grandland, DS 7 and Jeep Compass.

One of the tricks that Alfa Romeo has played is to offer all the mechanics that Stellantis has. In 2023 they had presented the mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, which the brand has destined for private customers, knowing how interesting environmental labels are in European capitals.

Now, for B2B customers, the 130-horsepower BlueHDI diesel engine comes to the market, with low consumption, of 5.6 liters approved. Although this engine is more than enough for daily use and even for long trips, the main problem that the Tonale presents is precisely that it has to do justice to the brand’s sporting DNA.

Because while it is true that Stellantis has taken great care of quality control and has stiffened the suspensions and steering to give a more precise feeling of control, the truth is that all versions of the range could use about 50 more horses. of power.

This is true even for the plug-in hybrid version, which has 280 horsepower when the electric motor is operating. However, the additional weight – almost two tons – takes its toll and the autonomy on the road runs out quickly, leaving it with 180 HP.

Although it is not ruled out that more powerful engines will arrive in the range in the future, for now the diesel will act as an entry version for the brand, with a Starting price of 40,400 euros.

In addition, Alfa Romeo has simplified the versions it offers with this model, going from the four that there were in 2023 to just two: Sprint and Veloce. This makes the choice easier for the end customer and the difference in the interior finish is notable, with a jump in price of 5,500 euros compared to each other.

For the year 2024, Alfa will offer a limited series that is at the top of equipment, called Tributo Italiano, which also has additional aesthetic details.
