In the final stretch of his first year in office, President Lula (PT) kept his popularity index stable. The PT closes the year 2023 with 38% approval among Brazilians, while 30% consider his work to be average, and the same percentage rates it as bad or terrible.

The data comes from Datafolha’s fourth survey on the acceptance of the president, which interviewed 2,004 voters in 135 cities in Brazil on Tuesday (5). The average margin of error is two points or so.

The numbers were practically the same throughout the four measurements during the mandate. The only significant variation occurred between June and September, when disapproval increased from 27% to 31%.

The approval profile is quite homogeneous: it is better evaluated among northeasterners (48%) and those with a lower educational level (50%).

Along the same lines, their disapproval rises to 39% among the 22% with higher education and the 15% who reside in the South. The highest rate is observed in the richest 4%: 47% of people who earn more than 10 minimum monthly salaries see Lula as bad or terrible.
