“I’m completely turned around. Having three public establishments delivered ten years ago and all of which must close is insane for a town of 5,600 inhabitants! But I am not running away from my responsibilities. I must assume the legacy of my predecessor… The main thing is that there are no children harmed…”

Mayor of Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours, Bruno Landais (DVD) does not hide his anger. This Friday evening, he permanently closed the only leisure center in his small town. A letter will be distributed to the parents of the children who frequented the premises. That is between 80 and 110 children per day because the site also provided after-school care.

“In a letter dated December 7, 2023 which accompanies the conclusions of his report, the expert wrote to me: this building must be closed immediately and permanently.” According to him, the all-wood structure has major construction defects. There are metal shoes missing screws, beams rotted by humidity, etc. “It will certainly be demolished,” confides the elected official.

The black streak continues. Because barely elected mayor in July 2020, Bruno Landais heard and listened to the complaints of teachers and parents of students at the Fontaine Sèche nursery school. “A lot of infiltration, leaks everywhere…” The situation is not much better at the association center next door. Hence his request to carry out a legal expertise on all the Gréau buildings built in wood and yet delivered in December 2013.

“We will succeed in ensuring the continuity of public service,” promises the mayor

In July 2021, first shock: a report ordered him to close the school and the associative space. The young people are reassigned to different structures near the socio-cultural center.

This time, following the emergency closure of the leisure center, the mayor plans to move it to Clos Saint-Jean as of Monday, December 11. Children will be welcomed there, including during the Christmas holidays. “We will succeed in ensuring the continuity of public service. We are lucky to have staff who are attached to it,” comments Bruno Landais who also underlines “the adaptability of the teachers”.

The municipality will file a complaint against the project owner and the various trades. “This set of four structures cost 14 million euros. Only the permanently built canteen is spared for the moment. The municipality’s debt is solely devoted to this project, three-quarters of which is out of order,” complains the councilor.
