Train Derailment Causes Major Disruption in Swedish Railway Traffic

A train derailment has caused major disruptions in railway traffic in Sweden on Sunday. The incident occurred just before 4 pm, affecting train traffic on the routes Stockholm–Duved, Stockholm–Umeå, and Stockholm–Sundsvall.

The Swedish Transport Administration has reported that a locomotive derailed at a switch, and it is currently unclear when the error may be fixed. Trafikverket’s press manager Bengt Olsson stated, “We have sent people there to look at this, and it will take a while for them to travel there.”

There is uncertainty regarding when the error will be fixed, as it depends on the extent of the damage to the track and the switch. It has been mentioned that if the locomotive is okay, it can be lifted onto the track again and pulled away with another locomotive.

As a result of the derailment, no trains can pass by Iggesund. Train operators have been advised to drive up to Söderhamn and then be redirected to Sundsvall via Kilafors, Bollnäs, and Ånge. SJ stated that they will reroute the trains via Ånge, but it is anticipated that this will result in significantly longer travel times.

Travelers going to the stations between Söderhamn and Sundsvall have been advised to take a bus, as traffic is expected to be affected throughout Sunday evening. SJ has also offered travelers the option to rebook their trip in light of the disruptions.
