Demand for a White Paper on Drainage Works and the Allegations against Scheduled Tribes Raises Tension in Tamil Nadu’s Political Field

by time news

The government of Tamil Nadu is facing mounting pressure from opposition parties to reveal details of the construction of rainwater drainage works following significant storm-flood damage in Chennai last week.

Parties including AIADMK, BJP, BMC, Naam Tamilar Katsi, and the Liberation Tigers are insisting that a white paper be published outlining the works implemented at an estimated cost of 4,000 crores. The leader of the Liberation Tigers, Thol. Thirumavalavan, stated that the public needs to be made aware of the actions taken and the expenditure involved.

Thirumavalavan has also openly criticized the DMK and AIADMK on issues related to atrocities against Scheduled Tribes and the internal affairs of both parties. Despite these criticisms, he has made it clear that he will continue in the DMK alliance.

The Vishik Deputy General Secretary, Vanni Govt, stated that the VCK has remained firm in its stance against the BJP and has remained part of the DMK alliance following the AIADMK’s decision to sever ties with the BJP. He expressed dissatisfaction with the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of issues related to atrocities against Scheduled Tribes.

Some senior journalists believe that Thirumavalavan’s comments will not have a major impact on the alliance, while DMK’s organizational secretary R.S. Bharti affirmed that the alliance with VCK remains strong despite differing views on certain issues.

Overall, the demand for transparency and accountability in the construction of rainwater drainage works and the strong voiced opinions of Thirumavalavan have brought into question the stability and dynamics of the DMK-Vishik alliance in Tamil Nadu.
