Until now, there was no effective solution to restore lost or deteriorated cognitive functions to these patients. New brain implant raises hope.
Work carried out at Stanford Medicine, and published in early December in Nature Medicine , were carried out on five patients aged 22 to 60, suffering from lasting cognitive disorders and still present more than two years after their head trauma. They were implanted with a deep brain stimulation device following a neurosurgical procedure.
