US Senator presents bill to monitor misuse of cryptocurrencies
US Senator Elizabeth Warren presented this Monday, 11th, a new bill to monitor loopholes surrounding the misuse of digital currencies for illicit activities, such as money laundering, drug trafficking and sanctions evasion.
The bill has the support of a coalition of the Banking Committee, and Warren today announced that five more senators have joined the bill, which could boost the development of greater regulation of crypto assets.
“The Treasury Department is making clear that we need new laws to crack down on the use of cryptocurrencies and allow terrorist groups, rogue nations, drug lords (…) to launder billions in stolen funds, avoid sanctions, or fund illegal weapons programs.” , Warren said.
