Doubling the proportion of plants on plates during the Olympic Games… This is one of the challenges of Paris 2024, which intends to make the Paris Games the most sustainable in history. And this requires an extremely sophisticated strategy in terms of food, especially since 13 million meals will be served next summer during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

If vegetarian options have existed for a long time at the Olympics, this is the first time that the organizers have gone this far. Thus, in the site canteens – reserved for staff, volunteers and partners – 50% of the dishes offered will be vegetarian. In the general public concessions on the sites, 60% of the offers offered will be non-meat. In the Olympic Village, a range of products will be offered to the 10,500 athletes, thanks in particular to Garden Gourmet, leader on the European and French market, which is becoming an “official supporter” of the Paris 2024 Games.

Vegan burgers, based on soy and wheat proteins, falafels with chickpeas and beetroot, vegan sausages for athletes’ breakfast… Garden Gourmet will supply a whole range of products to different service providers (notably Sodexo Live! ), whose Chefs are responsible for creating and preparing 13 million meals, both in the main restaurant of the Olympic Village and at the competition sites, where services will also be offered to volunteers and spectators.

“An exceptional showcase for the brand”

“We are very proud of this historic opportunity to become an official supporter of Paris 2024, it is an exceptional showcase for the brand and to expose the plant-based category,” said Marco Zanchi, General Director of Food France. We have a very clear ambition with Garden Gourmet, which is to make all consumers fall in love with plant-based products. Today, on the French market, 50% of consumers are flexitarian (they adopt a diet with more plant protein sources), vegan or vegetarian and this is a vision perfectly consistent with the sustainability ambition of the 2024 Olympics We are going to contribute to this desire to double the proportion of plants on plates, by offering our products on all sites. »

Present in France since 2016, Garden Gourmet is the European leader in a constantly growing market for vegetarian products. “Consumers choose a vegetarian diet for health, ecological, ethical reasons or by preference. It is a market which is experiencing significant growth (15% in France). » Marco Zanchi believes that the Olympics will act as “an accelerator” to change consumer habits. “Garden Gourmet will also benefit from this beautiful showcase. As leaders, we have a real role to play. »
