The bill relating to immigration carried by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, was rejected by the deputies at the opening of the debates, Monday December 11. A motion for prior rejection was adopted by 270 votes to 265, with those of the left, the National Rally and the Republicans.

Opposition to the government calls into question Emmanuel Macron’s “at the same time”. After this failure, they also question the legitimacy of the government and particularly that of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin.

This denounces a “alliance of opposites” who would have « mis[e] All right ” pour “to bring down (…) the government text. »

At the end of the council of ministers, the government spokesperson, Olivier Véran, announced that the government was convening a joint committee to find an agreement on the text between the Assembly and the Senate. This body of seven deputies and seven senators, which sits behind closed doors, should meet “as quickly as possible, always in the process of debating and seeking a compromise”declared Mr. Véran from the Elysée.
