Ouagadougou: The gendarmerie arrests three suspected crooks
Ouagadougou, December 12 2023(AIB)-The national gendarmerie of Burkina Faso arrested three alleged scammers on November 24, 2023 who were forcing their victims to join the Qnet network, the AIB learned on Tuesday from its communications department.
Three people, including two foreigners and a Burkinabè, were arrested on November 24, 2023 by the 3rd gendarmerie legion of Ouagadougou.
On social networks, these individuals made citizens, mostly foreigners, believe that they were recruiting on behalf of large companies based in Burkina, notes the gendarmerie in a press release.
Once there in Ouagadougou, the victims are sequestered until their loved ones pay for each, between 500 and 800 thousand FCFA, adds the text.
Only after their release did their tormentors inform them that the money was used to purchase Qnet products, giving them the choice of joining the Qnet network or not being reimbursed.
During November, the gendarmerie was contacted and investigations made it possible to get hold of these suspects, while waiting to find their accomplices, the press release specifies.
They were presented to the Faso Prosecutor at the Ouaga II High Court with the following charges: fraud, attempted fraud, identity theft, forgery and use of forgery.
The national gendarmerie invites the population to be more careful with recruitment announcements made on social networks on behalf of companies.
