Barcelona, December 12 (EFE).- The Platform for People Affected by Mortgage (PAH) has warned this Tuesday that the end of the eviction moratorium at the end of this December may cause, starting in January 2024, some 9,000 foreclosures in Catalonia.

Representatives of this housing movement today delivered a request to the new Executive of Pedro Sánchez at the Government Delegation in Barcelona to maintain the social shield measures against evictions and cuts of basic supplies to vulnerable families.

According to PAH calculations, in Catalonia there are 9,000 families whose eviction processes have been suspended and who could find themselves out of their homes in the coming months if social protection measures are not renewed.

“We ask the Government for an urgent meeting before the end of the year to convey the voice of those affected, to promote measures in 2024 to guarantee the right to housing and demand responsibilities from the rescued banks that accumulate thousands of empty apartments and from the funds vultures who profit, with the complicity of the administration,” they have argued.

They have also recalled that the so-called SOCIMI (Listed Real Estate Investment Companies), whose main activity is the acquisition and rehabilitation of homes for rent, “pay less taxes than a traditional company.” EFE
