Interaction of the great powers in East Asia (2): Russia.- Mónica Román González

The increasing importance of East Asia for Russia has made the eastern vector of its foreign policy a priority. On the one hand, the presence of the Russian Federation in the region has been limited due to its increasing subordination to China, as demonstrated by the Russian rejection of the Indo-Pacific concept, described by Moscow as a US attempt to contain Beijing. However, the drift of Sino-Russian relations is perceived with reluctance by certain sectors of the Kremlin as any dependence on the Asian giant is considered a scenario contrary to Russian interests. This situation, added to the progressive deterioration of its relations with the West, has meant that the great Russian objective of recovering a relevant status in the international system involves achieving a diversification of its allies in East Asia.
