The Kerala Women’s Basketball team’s journey back home from the National Championship turned into a nightmare, as they found their seats occupied by other passengers on the train. The team, which had clinched the second position in the championship, had to endure a grueling train journey without proper seating and amenities.

“Our seats were occupied by other passengers and there was no space to even move around. People were using our charger and water, and there was no facility to go to the toilet. It’s still a day and a half journey to reach home, and we don’t know what to do,” said team captain Grima, expressing the team’s frustration.

Despite complaining to the railway authorities, the team continued to face problems as passengers kept occupying their seats. The lack of privacy and basic facilities added to the distress, especially for the female players in the group.

Adding insult to injury, the Kerala team was provided a sleeper coach for their journey back, while the Maharashtra team, which had lost all its games in the tournament, was traveling in a different, more comfortable AC coach. To make matters worse, they were traveling in a special sleeper coach adjacent to the general compartment, further compromising their comfort and safety.

The ordeal highlights the negligence and lack of consideration shown towards the team, who had represented the state with pride at the national championship. The authorities have been called upon to take action and ensure the safety and well-being of the players on their journey back home.
