San Francisco Giants sign former KBO star Jung Hoo Lee to six-year, $113 million deal

The San Francisco Giants have made a big move in the offseason, reaching a six-year deal with KBO star Jung Hoo Lee, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The deal is reported to be worth $113 million, with an opt-out option after four years, and an additional $18.825 million posting fee owed to the Kiwoom Heroes, bringing the total to nearly $132 million.

Lee, a 25-year-old outfielder, has impressed in the KBO with a .340/.407/.491 slash line and is considered an above-average defender in center field. His arrival in San Francisco is expected to bolster the team’s athleticism and defense, as they aim to improve in these areas during the offseason.

President of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi did not confirm the deal with Lee but has previously expressed the club’s focus on upgrading their outfield and shortstop positions. General manager Pete Putila had heavily scouted Lee before his posting and the Giants have shown a keen interest in the young star.

Lee, who comes from a baseball family as the son of the legendary Korean shortstop Jong Beom Lee, made a name for himself in the KBO at a young age and was named MVP in 2022. He also impressed in the World Baseball Classic with a strong batting line.

With Lee’s arrival, the Giants’ outfield mix becomes even more crowded, with players like Yastrzemski, Haniger, Conforto, Slater, Matos, and Meckler all vying for playing time. It remains to be seen how the Giants will manage their outfield depth and potential roster moves to accommodate Lee.
