A representation of the more than 200 members of the Detachments Looking at the Sea (DMM) of Artemisa, exchanged about the operation of these structures during the celebration of the Provincial Balance in Mariel.

When referring to the work of the last stage, Elieser Vázquez, Secretary of Surveillance, Prevention and Ideology of the provincial leadership of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, explained that “several objectives were set aimed at improving the functioning of the detachments, the quality and efficiency in the fulfillment of their missions, as well as the systematic attention and preparation by the CDR and Border Guard Troops, this element being of vital importance.”

Our province has a total of 15 detachments in six of its municipalities: the largest number is Mariel with six, followed by Bahía Honda which has three, while Bauta and Caimito have two each, and Güira de Melena and Alquízar , one.

Preparing its members to confront illegalities, social indiscipline and the arrival of drugs on the coast, as well as increasing the circles of interest in primary schools in order to promote from an early age the relevance of the work on these fronts, were denominators. common during the debate.

Incorporating young people into their ranks is also a premise to which we should pay immediate attention, taking into account that of the 150 men and 67 women that make up the detachments, only 30 percent are between 16 and 30 years old.

To identify how much remains to be done in each space, according to its characteristics, and define, in that sense, the strategies to follow for the next period, urged Ania Thompson, provincial coordinator of the CDR.

Among the projections for the next stage, it stands out to maintain systematic attention to the DMM through visits and exchanges with the residents of the coastal areas and the development of joint actions aimed at preventing and confronting subversive activities, illegal human trafficking and other activities. incidents that affect citizen tranquility, deteriorate the environment or constitute violations.

Before concluding the meeting – which was also chaired by Dunia Jiménez, official of the national directorate of the CDR and Pastor Felipe Berroa, head of the operational body of the Mariel port captaincy – a recognition was presented to Tropas Guardafronteras .
