She shared that she uses the medication as a tool to manage her weight and avoid yo-yo dieting, emphasizing its role in helping her stay healthier.

While Winfrey chose not to disclose the specific medication she is using, she acknowledged the recent headlines surrounding drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which have been used for achieving weight loss. These Type 2 diabetes medications have been prescribed off-label for shedding pounds, while Wegovy has received specific approval for weight loss.

The media mogul has been candid about her weight loss journey and struggles over the years. She had previously expressed reservations about using medication, as she felt it would be taking the easy way out. However, Winfrey revealed that she had a turning point in her perspective during a discussion posted in September, leading her to realize that blaming herself for being overweight was not productive. She emphasized that obesity is a disease and is not solely about willpower but also involves the brain.

In addition to utilizing weight loss medication, Winfrey made significant lifestyle changes, such as drinking a gallon of water a day, eating her last meal at 4 p.m., and using the WeightWatchers points system. As an investor in WeightWatchers, Winfrey has also been involved in the company’s acquisition of Sequence, a digital health company that offers weight loss programs and telehealth consultations, including access to drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.

Furthermore, Winfrey adopted a more holistic approach to her weight loss journey, incorporating regular exercise such as hiking, especially following knee surgery. While she is approaching her goal weight of 160 pounds, she emphasized that she is focused on the progress she has made rather than fixating solely on the number on the scale.

Reflecting on her journey, Winfrey shared a personal achievement, revealing, “In Hawaii, I live on a mountain, and there’s this big hill — I used to look out the window every morning and say, ‘God, one day I want to walk up that mountain.’ Last year over Christmas I did it … It felt like redemption.”

Winfrey’s openness about her weight loss methods and her journey toward a healthier lifestyle serves as an inspiration for many, highlighting the importance of addressing weight management in a holistic manner.
