Concacaf Champions Cup 2024 Field Set with 10 MLS Clubs
The stage has been set for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup after Wednesday’s live draw announced the expanded 27-team tournament. The draw included 10 Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs, showcasing the growth and representation of North American soccer in the regional tournament.
Round One of the tournament will feature eight MLS clubs, with matches kicking off as early as February 6. Some of the notable matchups to watch include the Philadelphia Union facing off against Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica, New England Revolution taking on Independent CA from Panama, and Houston Dynamo FC going head-to-head with St. Louis CITY SC.
The Round of 16 will see Columbus and Miami, the winners of MLS Cup 2023 and League Cup 2023 respectively, receiving automatic byes. The Round of 16 matchups are set to begin as early as March 5 and will feature competitive games, including Columbus Crew against the winner of Houston Dynamo FC vs. St. Louis CITY SC, and Inter Miami CF against the winner of Nashville SC vs. Moca FC from the Dominican Republic.
The tournament will follow a schedule of two-legged matchups in the first four rounds, with the single-leg final determining the winner. The victorious team will earn a spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, as well as prize money and regional bragging rights.
