With the objective that all Salvadorans can cast their vote to elect the president, vice president, deputies and mayors, 77 parliamentarians of the Legislative Assembly approved a transitional provision so that voters can vote with an expired identification document.

“In the elections that will be held in the country in 2024, having the Unique Identity Document (DUI) expired will not be an obstacle for Salvadorans to cast their vote to elect the president, vice president, deputies and mayors.” Said the Legislative Assembly.

Data from the National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPN) indicate that a total of 569,921 people have this expired document.

“There are more than half a million people who have not been able to renew that identification card, for whatever reason, but despite that they have every right to elect their leaders and it is them who we want to give this opportunity,” said parliamentarian Ana Figueroa.
