Paris can rejoice in two ways. A few hours after its qualification obtained with difficulty on the lawn of Borussia Dortmund (1-1), PSG returns to the French capital with the relief of being able to envisage 2024 with the round of 16 of the Champions League. This hard-won qualification is also a small rejoicing for Parisian finances.

Don’t worry, elimination in the first round of the C1 would not have led to a major cataclysm as PSG achieved an explosive summer transfer window in terms of departures, significantly reducing its payroll. As revealed by Le Parisien, the departures of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos and the sale of Neymar made it possible to finance the entire amount, the rest being only a bonus.

Dortmund, a match worth 10.6 million euros

Above all, even before the decisive meeting at Signal Iduna Park, Paris was already assured of pocketing 82.3 million euros in profits linked to the Champions League. As we explained to you, this envelope is made up of a participation bonus (€15.64 million), a results bonus over the season (€6.53 million) and a coefficient bonus calculated on the last ten years and the UEFA ranking (around €30 million). In addition to this, the “market pool”, based on national TV rights, allowed the French champion to pocket €33M.

Following the draw on German soil, Paris has just won 10.6 million euros more: 9.6 for its qualification for the round of 16 and 930,000 euros linked to its last group match. Thus bringing its already acquired endowment to €92.9 million. With the next deadline looming in February and March, the capital club should see its UEFA revenues increase further. Last year, the Parisians pocketed 100.4 million euros in this competition. A windfall far from useless when it comes time to do the accounts before the European football authorities.
