Unemployment benefit protects for a time those people who have contributed for at least 360 days and have become unemployed, either because they have been fired, or because their contract has ended. If that person has exhausted it, or has not contributed enough to be entitled to collect it, he or she has the possibility of receiving unemployment benefits.

This is aid managed by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), the duration of which will depend on the number of days contributed, and whether or not the person has family responsibilities. The amount is similar in all cases: 80% of the Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator (Iprem). This year it is set at 600 euros per month, so the subsidy reaches 480 euros.

Requirements to collect aid

The SEPE clarifies the circumstances in which an unemployed person without the right to a contributory benefit can benefit from an unemployment benefit, even if he or she has no family responsibilities. First of all, must belong to one of these groups:

-Unemployed people over 45 years of age who have exhausted a contributory benefit.

-Unemployed people over 52 years of age who meet all the requirements, except age, to access a retirement pension.

-Unemployed who have contributed between 180 and 359 days.

-Unemployed people who have been declared fully capable, or partially disabled, after the review of their disability pension.

-People released from prison.

-Returned migrant workers.

In addition, it must meet these requirements:

-Have paid unemployment benefits for at least six months and less than 360 days.

-Lack individual monthly income greater than 75% of the current Interprofessional Minimum Wage, excluding the proportional part of two extraordinary payments. The monthly SMI is currently set at 1,080 euros, although social agents are negotiating an imminent revaluation.

-Register as a job seeker and maintain said registration throughout the period of receiving the aid, and not have rejected a suitable job offer.

In addition, it is mandatory to sign the activity agreement, a written agreement between the public employment services and the worker. It includes the rights and obligations of both parties to increase the employability of the unemployed.

The beneficiaries will receive the subsidy for six months. Payment will be made in monthly installments of 30 days, between the 10th and 15th of the month following the one in which the accrual corresponds.
