In the midst of the genocidal offensive of the Zionist State of Israel – which, so far, has killed more than 18,000 Palestinians, of which 70% were children and women, and left almost 50,000 injured – the Palestinian people resist with courage. In Gaza, where bombing and the advance of infantry and armor destroy both the north and the south, every day there are reports of casualties of Zionist soldiers and armor neutralized by Hamas and other Palestinian militias.

In the West Bank, for its part, there are protests of all kinds, marches and massive political events, even taking advantage of the funerals of the fallen. In that territory, not controlled by Hamas, almost 300 Palestinians have been murdered by Israeli forces since October 7. Dozens of others were arrested by the occupying troops. One more element that shows that this is not a “war against Hamas”, as Zionist propaganda and its international spokesmen claim, but rather a genocide against the entire Palestinian nation.

In this context, of social upheaval against the genocide in Gaza, the West Bank woke up on Monday, December 11, in a general strike.

Called by the National and Islamic Forces, a coalition of Palestinian sectors in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the strike condemns Israeli atrocities in Gaza. They denounce the indiscriminate bombings against civilians, the hunger siege, the tens of thousands of deaths, the forced exodus of 1.8 million Gazans, in short, the “collective punishment” imposed by Israel. The support for the strike is total. Transportation, commerce, schools, banks, nothing works.

Since it is a global call, the general strike has spread to Jordan and could impact other Arab countries.

The organizers demand, like the various mass demonstrations around the world, a definitive ceasefire in Gaza. In that sense, Palestinian fury was fueled when, last Friday, the United States and Israel itself, evidently, opposed a United Nations Security Council resolution that was in the direction of a ceasefire.

On the other hand, according to the Wafa agency, hundreds of people marched in Ramallah chanting slogans against the “crimes of the occupation and its massacres in Gaza”, displaying banners demanding the end of the war and the forced displacement of Palestinians and brandishing a plaque. which included the names of those killed in the Strip.

From the IWL-CI, we unconditionally support the general strike and express our complete solidarity with the Palestinian resistance, inside and outside Gaza. May this general strike be a strong boost to the unity of the Arab peoples who, together with the rest of the world, have the task of defeating the genocidal State of Israel and conquering a united, secular, democratic and non-racist Palestine, in all its historical territory. A task that, inevitably, presupposes the destruction of the State of Israel.

Let this general strike of the Palestinians be the first step of a new Intifada that reverberates in the region and in the world, that provokes popular rebellions in the other Arab and North African countries, against the governments complicit in the genocide perpetrated by Israel.
