Between the months of July and September of this year, the Galician courts that take on cases of violence against women have granted 355 orders and security protection measures, almost 17% more than on the same dates in 2022. Requests for this protective measure reached 521, 6% more than last year, of which seven out of ten were granted. And the courts on duty initiated 110, of which 72 were adopted.

During this period, and according to the data published this morning by the Observatory against domestic and gender violence of the General Council of the Judiciary, Galician courts registered 1,856 complaints of gender violence, practically the same as last year, when they received two less. The vast majority (1,499) reached the judicial bodies through police reports with complaints from the victims, while those filed by the victims’ entourage, 41, barely accounted for 2%.

The number of female victims also remains the same: 1,856 between July and September. The rate of gender violence in Galicia (female victims per ten thousand women) was 13, the lowest in Spain, whose average was 21. In total, in the third quarter of this year there were 17 minors under guardianship victims of gender violence, compared to 22 in the same period in 2022. In this last data, the children of victims on whom the abuser directly exerted violence were counted.
