“Nowadays Belarus” tells how she is remembered in her position.

Natalia Kachanavu called the second person in Belarus, and in case of death Alexander Lukashenko power in the country should pass to the head of the upper house of the parliament, that is, to this official.

Natalia Kachanova is 62 years old. She was born in Polotsk, where she made her career for a long time. The future official wanted to become a kindergarten teacher, but it is assumed that for her sports merits, she was offered admission to the Polotsk Polytechnic Institute, so that she would represent the university at competitions. That’s how Kachanova entered the specialty “Water supply and sewerage” at the local polytechnic.

After graduating from university in 1982, Kachanava, and before marrying Talkachov, was supposed to go on assignment to the “Khimvalakno” plant in Svetlagorsk, but there was no workplace for her at the enterprise, so she had to find a job on her own. She worked as a dispatcher for “Vodakanal” in Polotsk, after three months she became an engineer, and later she moved to the field of housing and communal services. In 2002, Kachanova headed the housing and communal services department in the Polatka City Executive Committee.

The official said that she got a job in the city council by accident, however, as “Nasha Niva” noticed, she had an apartment in the same building as the mayor of Polatsk. Vladimir Tachil. In 2007, the future chairman of the Council of the Republic headed the city executive committee of Navopolatsk. Under her, a roller-skating track was built in the city, and an oil refinery was reconstructed. In this position, Kachanova was remembered for the fact that, on her initiative, all women in the city who wanted to have an abortion were forced to undergo a consultation with a psychologist. Officials made a report that “more than 80 women were dissuaded from abortion” in Navopolatsk.

From the end of 2014 to 2016, Kachanova held the position of Deputy Prime Minister. Then she moved to Minsk. Her transfer to such a position was unexpected. Perhaps she was recommended by representatives of the security forces.

The official was responsible for the social sphere, and after being appointed to the position, she became the curator of the project on “free-living”. Her next high-profile project was the pension reform, as a result of which women now retire at 58, and men at 63.

In 2016, Kachanova was promoted. She was appointed to manage Lukashenka’s administration. She worked there until December 2019, after which she was elected chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus. 59 out of 60 appointed members of the upper house of parliament voted for her.

Soon Lukashenka changed the Constitution. According to the changes, it is Natalya Kachanova who will receive presidential powers in her position, if Lukashenka leaves the post of president.

Natalya Kachanova actively supported Lukashenka in the anti-coronavirus policy, and also, according to a former employee of the administration, it was she who insisted on “drawing Lukashenka 80 percent” in the last presidential elections.

At that time, Lukashenka’s head of affairs Victor Sheiman offered to announce the result of 60 percent and admit defeat in Minsk. After the falsification of the elections, the official tried to calm the population. On August 13, in the midst of protests, Kachanova addressed Belarusians on the air of the state television channel “Belarus-1”.

In August 2020, Kachanova came to the Belteleradiocompany together with Lukashenka’s press secretary Natalia Eismont. There they talked with employees of the media holding, who did not agree with what the state TV channels told about the protests and torture of people in Akrestin.

In September 2020, the official also met with BSU students, in particular, the Faculty of Journalism, where only those students appointed by the faculty’s administration were invited.

On February 24, 2022, Russian troops invaded Ukraine, including from the territory of Belarus. Two years before in the interview Dmitry Gordon Lukashenko promised that Russian troops would never attack Ukraine from the territory of Belarus. Kachanava rejects any accusations against Belarus of participation in the attack:

“All accusations of our state allegedly aiding aggression are complete absurdity and dirty lies. We, like no one else, are interested in a faster peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.”

Previously, Kachanova stated that only a man can be the president of Belarus, and during a visit to one of the maternity hospitals, she said that these women perform the main task of life – they give birth to Belarusians.

Natalya Kachanova defends the so-called traditional values in the country and suggests that instead of celebrating Saint Valentine’s Day, Saints Peter and Fevronia should be celebrated.
